The Purpose of Practice

The Frame and the Frameless

I cannot possibly tell you what your purpose of practice is, nor do I desire to do so. It is something that solely you can know or discover. However I can tell you about my own insights and experience. As a opener to what I will share in a moment, I want to propose a simple perspective : what if practice itself is the purpose ? Maybe practice itself is your door to simple unconditional joy and it just makes sense for you in the face of growing understanding for the real simple values of life. Those values that are not far away out there, in some ungraspable distance. Somewhere we first need to prove ourselves worthy to reach. But so close that we might forget. Maybe the Ocean and the Universe we are trying to reach, which we all yearn to look at in awe is really the one inside of us. And maybe even the skills, movements and knowledge we are striving to achieve in life are still just pointing back to that very simple moment of connection. That simple understanding that it is truly just about a joyful filling, the very single first breath you took and not about a accumulation of breaths. Simplicity is the heart of purpose.

Ways of Practice

Of course the word practice is a very broad term and can be a layout for anything, starting with Fitness Training, Dance, Yoga, Karate, martial arts in general, Athletics, Chess playing, Football... you get the point. The practice I am referring to here is the practice of internal arts, including internal movement arts, weapons and Forms.
